I’ve been trying to decide on whether to get blinds or shutters for my son’s bedroom for quite some time now.
He has a small window, and for the first half of the year ( Autumn/ Winter), we have no issues.
However, when Summer approaches, the streaming light comes through and wakes him up.
It has became more of a problem recently because we moved his bed to face the window more directly.
After careful consideration, I decided to go for blinds.
In fact, blinds are not as I remembered them. No longer are they take away ones, where you have to measure, cut and fit yourself, and then get it horribly wrong.
They have definitely come a long way from being those floppy, blow in the wind ones, with pulls that tangle into knots.
The super expensive bespoke made quality ones are also now a thing of the past.
In fact, blinds have evolved, and I am so excited to introduce you to Bloc Blinds, a U.K. based blinds company.
They create all types to suit all styles of windows, from bay windows, to skylights to Patio doors and more.
What’s amazing is that you can request an array of fabric samples to pick from.
They have blinds for all tastes, from black out Bloc out blinds, to blinds that soften the light and more.I have chosen 100% black out ones for my son’s room. I have picked the Primrose yellow Bloc out blind.
That soft yellow goes really well with the blue theme of his bedroom don’t you think? If you are unsure what blinds you need for a particular room, Bloc blinds can even do a Skype consultation with you and advise.
The icing on the cake is that they now have a Measure and Fit service. It’s a service that is both affordable and accessible. I was lucky to get to experience this service.
Once you’ve made your choice, you just book a slot for someone to do the measurements.
A few weeks later when the blinds are done, they will return to fit.
The whole process is so fast and convenient. I think it took about 10 to 15 minutes per blind fitting .
The fitters were incredibly thoughtful. They wore over the shoe protectors when indoors, and took all packaging away to discard. They can even be controlled via a touch of a button on the remote control. That’s so cool isn’t it? I feel like I’m in some luxury hotel.
Go one step further, the blinds can even be controlled via an app and Alexa. Imagine early morning, still sleepy in bed, and if it’s cold, there’s no longer a need to leave the comfort of your bed to see the sunshine.
Here’s how it looks three quarters of the way down. This is my workspace from where I blog from.
During the second half of the day, the sun can get quite harsh, which makes editing images on my computer screen tricky.
I wanted a way to soften the light, without throwing my room into darkness.
I have chosen the White Arosa Bloc blind which seem to have done the trick. Its alternating opaque and sheer fabric mean that I can control the light intensity in my room. They’re almost like the blinds version of wooden shutters. It’s so nice to be able to adjust them remotely too. It means uninterrupted editing time.
So what do you think?
They are of wonderful quality and at a fraction of the price to similar ones in physical stores.
The whole process from picking the fabric samples, to the Measure and Fit service was seamless. I highly recommend them if you are looking for something similar in your homes.
I have placed a video clip of the blinds fitting on my instagram. Do check it out.
