How to style a calm neutral nursery for a baby boy or girl.
I remembered the excitement when I was pregnant with my first child.
After the initial 12 weeks period, that nesting instinct kicked in.
Being an interiors lover, I recalled how excited I was to start work on the nursery.
At 12 weeks, I still didn’t know the gender of my baby, so buying for the nursery was difficult.
In those days ( gosh, makes me sound ancient saying that!) there wasn’t a lot of choice in the nursery market.
Fast forward to now, and my baby has grown up, but I’m excited to be styling a nursery again.
Before you jump to conclusions, I am not pregnant.
Marsh and Parsons with their ‘matching people and property in London’ campaign, have just released their favourite look for a neutral nursery.
I was excited to be asked to create my take on a neutral nursery at home ( image above).
I’ve chosen a gender neutral scheme with white, greys and earthy tones of ochre yellow and brown.
The simple white cot is the Sundvik from Ikea UK.
I wanted to create a cosy feel suitable for all seasons. I’ve decided to layer sheepskin rugs on the wooden floor. The grey rugs are from Ikea UK and the cream one is from The White Company.
The rugs are perfect as play mats, keeping babies warm in Winter and cool in Summer.
One of my favourite finds for this room is the bed linen. The flat top sheet is by Numero 74, from Molly Meg, and it’s in a soft muslin gauze fabric.
I can still remember how babies love carrying muslin blankets around as comforters. How I wish they came in adult sized bed sheets too.
The sleeping bag and cot bumpers in a warm cream with gold stars are by Nobodinoz, also from Molly Meg.
The silver grey cotton futon is by Numero 74, again Molly Meg.
Cuddly toys are an essential in any nursery. I’ve picked a cute penguin softie from noodoll and a beautiful collection of hand knitted cotton toys from Sophie Home.
After having two kids, I can say from experience that storage is an important factor when planning a nursery.
Another important point to remember is that kids grow up quickly, so it is essential to plan a bedroom space that can evolve with age.
My neutral nursery space has 2 large built in wardrobes to house baby’s clothes and toys.
The gap between the wardrobes are large enough for the cot bed and even in future, for an adult sized double bed.I absolutely adore this little rusty brown coloured See-ya travel case from Olliella. It’s perfect for storing baby’s toys, but also doubles up as decor in the nursery.
It’s a cool travel bag for a toddler don’t you think?
As you know, no room is complete without something on the walls. In keeping with the neutral palette, I have selected a few wall pieces from my favourite brands.
The bunny art print is by HAM, the sushi Futomaki print is by bornlucky and the bottom 2 cute art prints are from small bob.
The garland below the art prints is from Velveteen Babies, and the peace sign banner is by Happy Sunday Studio.
Finally, every nursery should have a night lamp. My lamp is from HIMMEE lighting.
I’m aware that I don’t have a nappy changing table or nursing chair in this room set, but I would highly recommend taking a look at Smallable for more nursery furniture.
