Camille Walala at Aria – The Memphis trend.

With all the rain in London last week, I thought I’d post something bright to give you all a mid-week cheer.

I was overseas for most of London Design festival this year, but I was so pleased to have at least caught this exhibition.

Introducing you to Aria’s London Design week 2015 presentation of Camille Walala’s work.

The exhibition was called ‘Walala In Da House’. Isn’t that exterior amazing?Camille Walala is known for her tribal POP style, using vibrant colours and graphic prints.

Her work appears to be influenced by the Memphis movement.

The Memphis group was founded by Ettore Sottsass in 1981and they designed colourful furniture and decor inspired by the Art Deco and Pop Art eras.It was great to get to photograph the exhibition up close.

Graphic squares on walls seem to be very on trend, I have noticed it popping up in various other design venues. I’m sure we will see more of it emerging come Spring/Summer.The bright pops of colour and patterns go so well together.This is inspiring me to paint the backs of my shelves in vibrant shades or even apply stripy wallpaper.Up close.It was wonderful to get to see this classic Memphis designed ‘Tahiti’ lamp by Ettore Sottsass.This is a simple way to inject a bit of Memphis style to your shelves. Wrap books in brightly coloured covers.Mix and match bold patterns, stripes, swirls and splatter. These vases would be fun to create.I’m loving this pink decanter and crystal cut glasses.If colour is not your thing, Memphis style can still be achieved with monochrome shades of black and white.I finish off with this pair of colourful shoes in Memphis style.
