Coral Sunset peonies.

peonies-flower-of-the-month-photo-by-Geraldine-Tan-Little-Big-BellI absolutely love this time of the year.

There is so much to love in May, but for me, it’s seeing peonies come into season, and being displayed on the flower stands of shops.

Peonies were part of my wedding bouquet many years ago. Not only did I have a hand tied bouquet of white peonies mixed with lilies, but they were also made into huge hanging balls, suspended from the ceiling of the marquee, in the grounds of our Oxford country home.

When I think back to my wedding day, my head fills with that lingering sweet but subtle fragrance of peonies.

Unsurprisingly, the peony symbolises love, happiness and health.sunset-peonies-in-living-room-photo-by-Little-Big-BellPeonies come in a variety of colours. From whites, to pinks, to reds and yellows.

For me, a rounded glass vase is just the perfect vessel to display peonies.

On my coffee table, you can can see both the red and coral pink varieties. For this post, I am focusing on the latter, the Coral Sunset peony.Pink-peonies-photo-by-Geraldine-Tan-Little-Big-BellThere is something special about Coral Sunset peonies.

They change colour from day to day, and it’s such a joy to see how the colours of my living room are being accentuated or contrasted against as they evolve.

The Coral Sunset peony starts off, when unopened, in a vibrant Fuchsia shade.  Sunset-peonies-pink-colour-Little-Big-BellAs its beautiful petals unfold, fuchsia turns to a lighter pink.Coral-sunset-peony-Little-Big-BellThen Coral pink tones come into play.Peonies-that-change-colour-photo-by-Little-Big-BellGradually,a light peach emerges.Coral-Sunset-peonies-Little-Big-BellHere you can see the two tones of peonies at different stages of their colour evolution.Colourful-living-room-how-to-decorate-photo-by-Geraldine-Tan-Little-Big-BellLook at how the peonies accentuate my beautiful art print, drawing one’s eyes towards the matching deep pink and coral tones. Its stems punctuating the pops of green scattered in the room.Peonies-in-a-vase-Little-Big-BellThese colours are just perfect for a Spring and Summer decor.  Place them amongst a pastel interior with bright pops of yellows and pinks.Peonies-on-coffee-table-Little-Big-BellPeonies look great as a bunch on its own, but you could also add to the bouquet.

Try adding Billy Buttons for some pops of yellow and also some light green foliage, or try that winning combination of white peonies with lilies. Coral-Sunset-peonies-on-coffee-table-photo-by-Little-Big-BellA pretty view from above.Peonies-changing-colour-Little-Big-BellHere you can see my peonies in their final shade, a light golden yellow.

Unlike most flowers that get droopy and drop their petals as they mature, the Coral Sunset peonies do the opposite. They flourish, become fuller and look radiant.Living-room-with-day4-peony-photo-by-geraldine-tan-Little-Big-BellLook at how the peonies now blend in with the yellow and orange tones of my living room decor.Coral-Sunset-peonies-turned-yellow-photo-by-Geraldine-Tan-of-Little-Big-Bell-blogJust love how they fill out the rim of my rounded vase.Coral-Sunset-peonychanging-colour-photo-by-Geraldine-Tan-Little-Big-BellLayered petals unfolded to reveal the yellow stamens.

Hope you have enjoyed this peonies post, and that it has given you some inspiration on how to decorate and display them in a colourful setting.

Have a wonderful and happy day!
