Eating Out

German Gymnasium and Jing Tea pairing menu.

German-gymnasium-1It’s not everyday that I get treated to an amazing 4 course breakfast, bright and early, at 8 o’clock in the morning.

It happened last week. I was the guest of Jing Tea .

It was a special treat to sample their tea and food pairing menu at German Gymnasium.
Restaurants-in-London-German-GymnasiumGerman Gymnasium is based at London’s King’s Cross area.

It’s part of the D&D London group, the operator behind the renowned restaurants such as Bluebird and Le Pont de la Tour.

The restaurant was in a stunning historic building. It was the first purpose built gymnasium in England. Its internal conversion has been so beautifully done.German-gymnasium-london-photo-by-Geraldine-Tan-Little-Big-Bell-blogTake a look at the bar with its marble table, brass lamps and those chairs. Aren’t they just simply divine?Jing-tea-at-German-Gymnasium-photo-by-Geraldine-Tan-Little-Big-BellBack to the topic of breakfast. I couldn’t wait to sample the pairing menu.Jing-tea-at-German-Gymnasium-photo-by-Little-Big-BellEverything was perfectly set on the table.

Here you have Jing Tea’s classic glass tea ware made from the purest borosilicate glass.

The leaves in my teapot were Jing Lemon Verbena. They are produced from dried Verveine leaves. The tea has a light buttery taste with the subtle scent of lemons.Jing-tea-menu-pairingsHere it is, all brewed and ready to be tried.

It was fragrant and refreshing. Definitely the perfect start to my day.Chia-pot-with-coconut-and-almond-milk-photo-by-Geraldine-TanThe Jing Lemon Verbena tea was paired with this delicious and super healthy Chia pot in coconut and almond milk, vanilla, pomegranate and lemon balm.German-gymnasium-eggs-benedict-photo-1-by-Little-Big-BellThe next course was this Eggs Benedict with black forest ham. Doesn’t it look too beautiful to eat?

It was paired with Jing Assam breakfast tea which was a strong, rich, full bodied tea. It had a malty yet fruity and spicy flavour with subtle notes of honey.

I drank it with a little splash of milk. It was the perfect combination to the savoury of Eggs Benedict.Bavarian-Meatloaf-at-German-gymnasium-photo-by-Little-Big-BellAre you feeling hungry seeing all this food? Sorry to tempt.

This is Leberkaes Semmel, a Bavarian meatloaf with Rosti, Sauerkraut, egg and cheddar cheese. You have to try it, it’s totally moreish.

The meatloaf was paired with Jing Jade Sword which is a green tea, full of sweet Spring flavour.

It doesn’t end here. There was one further last course to breakfast, however, I was by then in a rush to get to work.

It was a raspberry and lemon muffin paired with a cold Jing Matcha smoothie combined with spinach, kiwi, grapes and apple.

I was lucky to be given them to take away with me.

The Matcha smoothie was packed full of antioxidants, the perfect addition to my required five a day.

So, what do you think? Have I tempted you to go try this pairing menu at German Gymnasium? I think I’ve tempted myself again.

Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead.
