Heal’s Discovers, Heal’s Autumn/Winter preview collection

As promised, here is Heal’s Autumn/Winter collection and the annual Heal’s Discovers preview which showcases exclusive collaboration with new design talents.

Heals-Discovers- AW-2013What caught my eye when I entered the room was the hand-blown glass lighting by Rothschild & Bickers, one of only a few glassworks still active in the U.K.  Each piece is an original, free-blown with its own tiny irregularities. I am liking its delicate hues, curves and the mix of materials used in its creation.

The lights, created in collaboration with Heal’s lighting buyer, Lucio Longoni, apparently takes inspiration from all periods of design history, from the Arts and craft movement to the bubble-like Retro styles.

This futuristic piece is called Diamond and is designed by London based Joss Barton. It has been laser cut from a thin sheet of stainless steel, then hand folded. The triangulated stress lines of the metal around the central band interacts with the light source to create a stunning visual effect.

These Scandinavian style powder coated metal pendants also caught my attention. They evoke that sense of a relaxed coastal lifestyle. The canary yellow is my favourite.

When we met Jake Phipps, best known for his Jeeves and Wooster lighting for Innermost, he asked us to guess what the above shiny stools’ design were based upon. Needless to say, I failed. It’s based on a shell casing.

He told us that he wanted to design a stool that was easy to pick up, so drew a tubular shape with a 360 degree indentation at the top, this reminded him of the empty shell casing and so the design was borne.

They also come in a silver finish. The perfect ‘bling’ factor to any interior.

The table lamp by DeGross Design & Innovation is more than meets the eye. Look closer and you will notice that it is made from a recycled glass bottle. This collection came about when the designers found a series of discarded pharmaceutical bottles behind their studio. Now all the bottles used have been sourced from waste management companies.

The desk above made of coppiced hazel and oak is by Sebastian Cox.

Heals-discovers-Marimekko

Those who follow me on Instagram, know that I am a huge fan of Marimekko, so I was  delighted to get a sneak peek of its new season collection. I’m loving the graduated colour tones and the bold black strokes.

What do you think of the new design?

This Race DA6 wingback sofa is based on an archive Heal’s design by Ernest Race from 1964. The shape and silhouette of this piece is so elegant. The soft furnishings displayed perfectly compliment its natural coloured upholstery.

Heal's- blankets- AW -2013

Talking about soft furnishings, these beautiful blankets, which include designs by Eleanor Pritchard, were a great display of patterns and colours. All part of Heal’s extensive new collection.

Heals-AW-2013There was also vast range of new season home accessories such as these wooden apples by loglike.

I was glad it was only a press preview and not a shopping day, otherwise I would have surely done damage to the bank account.

I hope you have enjoyed this post. Wishing you a lovely week. x
