Jaegersborggade – a cool street in Copenhagen to explore.

Assistens-park-Copenhagen

Yesterday was a fun day out with the family in Copenhagen, but before I start to tell you all about it, I would like to acknowledge the lovely people who have told me about this and the many other places I have explored and dined in Copenhagen. They are Rikke of That Nordic feeling, Anya of Anya adores, Toni of Skandivis, Britta of Gertsen PR and many more of my Instagram friends. Thank you all so much for your generous insider tips to this amazing city.

So yesterday, we decided to explore Jaegersborggade in the Norrebro district, a now emerging, hip and trendy area of Copenhagen. I have been reliably told by locals that this place used to be ‘rough around the edges’, however much regeneration and gentrification has now occurred.

We took the Metro train to Norreport station and proceeded from there to walk to our desired destination (about 25 minutes walk). Just to mention, next to Norreport station is the famed Torvehallerne market selling a variety of gourmet food. The food stalls are a must try. We previously had the fresh handmade pasta from Erisk which was amazing.

I highly recommend a walk through the vast Assistens cemetery to get to Norrebro. This is the burial site of Hans Christian Andersen and the nobel prize winning physicist Niels Bohr. It was a tranquil setting but immensely beautiful.

The above picture is of the Poplar or Cypress tree lined path in the Assistens cemetery leading towards Jaegersborggade.

There were numerous small and independent shops at Jaegersborggade. Our first stop was Keramiker Inge Vincents.

Displayed on the shelves were Inge’s beautiful trademark, Thinware white porcelain, so delicate and some almost paper thin.

Inge was on hand to tell me about her work, each individual piece has been personally handmade and that no two are identical.

I particularly like these ‘Baggy’ vases for the fluidity of their shape and their dainty nature to the touch. You can read here all about Inge Vincent’s work.

Our next stop was another porcelain shop called Uhlala ceramics, owned by the lovely Julie Bonde. Uhlala translates to ‘being surprisingly seduced’. Unfortunately, my photos got accidentally wiped, so above is the photo taken from Uhlala’s website.

Julie was previously an in house designer at Royal Copenhagen. At the moment, she is the sole master crafter of these perfect porcelain pieces. Β I am loving the smooth round tablet shape of her Bonbonniere collection which come in white and a series of candy coloured pastels.

Julie has been involved in various collaborations, she showed me the photos of the beautiful handmade plates she made for Relae, the One Michelin starred restaurant by Christian Puglisi and Kim Rossen, a few doors down from her shop. For gastronomics visiting Copenhagen, Relae and Noma would be the recommended choices.

We stopped for lunch at Cafe Lyst. The food was delicious. For those who follow my Instagram stream, would have seen that amazing Chicken salad with berries and a Satay sauce that I ordered. My daughter loved the food so much that she actually commented how sad she was leaving Copenhagen soon as this is now her favourite cafe.

For after lunch, we had the smooth blended coffee from Coffee Collective. This coffee is addictive and delicious, another highly recommended one to try. Accompanying our coffees were the more-ish, freshly made toffees bought from Karamelleriet, a few doors down.

To end our day in this lovely area, the kids had a fun time at ‘The Bermuda Triangle’ park opposite Cafe Lyst. You will see why the park has this name when you get there. All the play equipment are supposed objects lost in the Bermuda triangle such as large plane and ship wrecks to climb on.

Hope you have enjoyed this post. We are off to explore a different area of Copenhagen today. More posts to follow. x

  6. OK, now I really would like to return to Copenhagen. We shot there for my book but it was a flying visit – literally in and out the same day – so I didn’t see too much other than the home we styled and photographed. Thanks for the tip, Geraldine!
