Lighting

Lighting ideas to transform your home.

Kitchen-worktop-lighting-styling-and-photo-by-Little-Big-BellWhen we decided to renovate our home a few years ago, I was keen not to repeat the previous mistakes we made. I was determined not to overlook lighting.

I knew only too well that lighting played a key role in transforming a space, and the creation of that desired feel.

A few simple tricks that won’t cost the earth can make a huge difference. I’ve collaborated with Wickes to show you some similar lighting ideas to the ones I have used in my own home.

Here’s my kitchen.

An absolute essential when designing a kitchen with overhead cabinets, is to install under cabinet lighting.

At night, when ceiling lights are turned on, shadows may appear below the kitchen cabinets, making  the visibility of food preparation difficult.

This cabinet downlight kit in brushed chrome is a good possible option.Kitchen-lighting-styling-and-photograph-by-Geraldine-Tan-Little-Big-BellBelow cabinet lighting is also great for highlighting a display on your work top. The light  used can create a warm glow especially in an all white kitchen, like mine above.Shelf-lighting-photo-by-Geraldine-TanHere is another under cabinet display, all lit up.

This shelving is in our basement family room, which doesn’t get a huge amount of sunlight.

To me, this shelf lighting is like a little window of light.

Great mood lighting don’t you think? Just the perfect cosy feel for when the family huddle up together, on the sofa, whilst watching television.

I love how the light accentuates the colourful accessories on display.Stair-light-ideas-photo-by-Geraldine-Tan-Little-Big-BellI have always wanted wall lights by my stairs, and I was so pleased to finally get them. I wanted the ability to highlight my oak staircase.

Stair lighting, apart from its functional role, creates such a striking focal point at an entryway. It really adds drama to a space. Here are some similar plinth lighting .Plinth-lighting-1-photo-by-Little-Big-BellTalking about Plinth lighting, I have them in my basement family room too.

The room is on two levels. The lighting is on the upper level overlooking the main seating area.

As well as highlighting that upper level corridor, it  directs light towards the darker lower seating area. These plinth lights were raised further away from the wall than conventional because of the waterproofing behind.

I hope you have enjoyed this post and a little peek into my home.

Lighting is certainly an easy way to transform the look and feel of different spaces within your home. Do check out Wickes lighting range to create similar.

Wishing you a happy week.
