Pantone Colour of the year 2016 rugs ‘Inspired by nature’.

Emily-Henderson-Living-Room-Poof-Couch-TreeRecently, I was asked by Modern Rugs UK to pick my trend predictions for rugs as we go into 2016. I was given a choice from their 5 key interiors trends and I picked ‘Inspired by Nature’.

2015 saw the popularity of outdoor greenery being brought indoors. There was certainly an explosion of foliage prints and patterns adorning soft furnishings and home accessories.

I think 2016 will still see the bringing of outdoors in, but in a much subtler way. I am thinking of pretty pastel hues of floral blooms and the changing tones of the skies and seas.

This also ties in nicely with Pantone’s colour predictions for 2016. The beautiful dusky blue shade of Serenity and the pinky sky tones of Rose Quartz.

I have curated a few images to show you what Inspired by Nature means to me in 2016.

The photo above is by Emily Henderson, found via Brit and Co. I’m loving the dusky blue rug with patches of white. It’s like having the sky below your feet. Looks beautiful when combined with Danish mid century style furniture. The blues pair well with the light teak colour of wood and the worn brown leather of the sofa. The white cushions draw out the patches of cloudy white in the rug.

To recreate this look, I have found a similar rug from Modern rugs UK by Designer’s Guild. It is called Phipps Sky rug .
Weekend-thuis-Binti-Home-ontwerp-3Next, is a gorgeously styled living room by Souraya Hassan of Binti home. The rug is not quite Rose Quartz but on the more coral end of that shade. Love how the look is balanced with the grey of the sofa and the pinks drawn out by the accent tones in the cushions and rose gold planters in the far wall.

cameo_8246_fedra_swedish-1I found a similar rug but with a darker tone, edging more towards Pantone’s Rose Quartz. Like the changing colours of the skies at dusk.

It’s the Cameo 8246 Fedra Swedish rug, part of the Louis de Poortere collection which can also be purchased at Modern Rugs.

Hope you’ve enjoyed this post. Have a great festive week.
