Pomegranate Fizz, a lower calorie festive drink with Splenda Zero.

Pomegranate Fizz, a lower calorie festive drink with Splenda Zero.

Hope you’ve all had a wonderful Christmas. I thought I’d pop in to share with you an easy to make New Year’s Eve cocktail recipe from Splenda.

I’m sure many of us feel like we have over eaten during the Christmas period right?

There’s still New Year’s Eve feasting to come and I’m sure many are not looking forward to trying on their jeans again. Splenda Zero cocktailI recently went to a talk by expert nutritionist Helen Bond, about Splenda, which is a low calorie sugar alternative called Sucralose. The best way to lose weight if you have a sweet tooth is to cut down on your added sugar intake.

If you find it difficult to cope without that sweet sensation, but want to reduce your calories intake, then Splenda could be a great alternative. Splenda is a sugar molecule with some of its atoms being replaced by chlorine.

It is essentially an indigestible artificial sugar, which is not fully absorbed in the gut, hence there is no blood sugar rises or calorie accumulation.

The photo above is of Splenda’s no calorie liquid sweetener called Splenda Zero.Splenda has been on the market since 1998 and is FDA approved.

It is particularly great for Type 2 Diabetics who find it hard to kick their sugar cravings. As a doctor, I would advise the best policy is to cut out all added sugars, but I’m fully aware that  it’s easier said than done.

With the latter in mind, here is the New Year’s eve recipe for Pomegranate fizz that I recently tried from Splenda.

Ingredients:

  1. 600ml 100% Pomegranate juice.
  2. 4.5ml SPLENDA ZERO Liquid sweetener
  3. 400ml tonic water or cava
  4. 4.60g pomegranate seeds.

Method:

  1. Gently warm around 50ml of pomegranate juice, then stir in the SPLENDA ZERO until it dissolves.
  2. Stir in the rest of the pomegranate juice.
  3. Pour the mix in to champagne flutes and top up with either cava or tonic water.
  4. Drop in a few pomegranate seeds to serve.

Hope you’ll enjoy the recipe. Wishing you a wonderful 2018.

I’m liking the “Or Cava” part of your recipe!
I have a seriously sweet tooth and an ever-expanding middrift! I’m thinking Splenda might just be the answer. That and a lot of greenjuice!
    Happy New Year Geraldine. xxxxx
