The Tray table, a modern day way for entertaining.

Cordello-home-tea-set-photo-by-Little-Big-BellA nice pot of mint tea, a brightly sprinkled doughnut, a new book to read and a chance to play with my DSLR camera, is how I love to unwind. That is, when I have time to do so.

I managed to do just that, one day last week, when everyone else was out of the house.

It was the perfect excuse for me to try out my new tea set and tray table from Cordello Home.
tea-donuts-photo-by-Little-Big-BellIn the background, I had a scented candle burning and my favourite music from You Tube playing.

If only everyday could be like this.tea-party-at-home-Little-Big-BellEven my fine bone china tea set, with its intertwining aqua hearts, exuded a calm. I loved pairing that gold coloured teaspoon against the tranquil shade of blue of the cup.stylish-tea-cups-and-saucers-photo-by-Little-Big-BellIt then occurred to me that this could be a Valentine’s Day gift.

A book about Love, Style and Life with a tray and tea set covered in Love motifs. Just perfect right?

Wouldn’t it be nice to get this delivered to you in bed on Valentine’s morning? How would you hint for this to your other half?
Cordello-home-tea-set-1-photo-by-Little-Big-BellThe brand Cordello Home is the brainchild of graphic designer Kate Shaw, and was itself born out of Love, a love for Design.

Its name was derived from two Italian words, “cuore” meaning heart and “mordello” meaning pattern.

I love the idea of a portable tray table. That 49cm birch wood tray fitted perfectly on those slender and elegant chrome legs. It was light to carry and sturdy as a stand.Cordello-home-tea-set-and-tray-photo-by-Geraldine-Tan-Little-Big-BellI have always wanted a tray table, for simple practical purposes. It was just the icing on the cake or doughnut in this case (sorry, had to do that), to get one with such a stylish design.

What simple practical purpose you may ask? Well, it has all to do with availability of space.

Even though nowadays most people tend to entertain and take tea in the kitchen/dining area, there are still times when guests sit in the living room.

Summer-flower-arrangement-by-Little-Big-BellI have a tiny coffee table in my living room. For me, the role of a coffee table has evolved. Evolved into a form of display.

Curated coffee table books, decorative accessories that have been styled into vignettes, and floral blooms now occupy every inch. There is no longer space for mugs, cups and spills.Cordello-home-styled-by-Geraldine-Tan-Little-Big-BellHere’s where the portable tray table comes into play. In my opinion, it is now the new modern day answer to entertaining in your living room space.Cordello-home-tray-and-tea-set-1-photo-by-Little-Big-BellAnother area where the tray table has come in handy for me, is in my workspace. I have space limitation issues there too.

My study desk is often filled with piles of paper and books whilst I’m busy at work. It’s so nice to now be able to reach out to a nearby side tray table for a replenishment of tea and snacks.

Are you the same as I with the workspace / coffee table space limitation?Cordello-home-tray-styling-and-photo-by-Little-Big-BellEven if not, isn’t it just nice to surprise your guests with a tray full of colourful goodies and cakes displayed on its own stand? These heart shaped plates are from the White Company.

Hope you have enjoyed the post. Wishing you all a wonderful and relaxing week ahead. I will be back this week with more colourful posts. Can’t wait to show you.

Hi Karen, the pumps were bought from J.Crew in New York last Summer. They may still have them on their website. I know they bring out different colours of the same style each season too. x
