Here are 10 things to see, do and eat for travel in Singapore.

1. Admire the architecture of Singaporean shophouses.

These colourful heritage shophouses are on Emerald Hill. Traditionally, they are 2 storey high with commercial premises on the ground floor and residential on the top floor.

Shophouses originated in the 1820s and tend to be narrow and deep in configuration. Nowadays, many have been converted back to just residential homes.

2. Visit one of Singapore’s oldest Hindu temples.

Head to the super colourful Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple on 397 Serangoon Road to see the beautifully carved Hindu statues and experience their culture.

Inside the temple are the statues of Vishnu and his consorts Lakshmi and Andal, the goddesses of Wealth and Beauty respectively.

At the beginning of the year, Hindus usually celebrate Thaipusam, the victory of the Hindu God Murugan over the demon Surapadman. The procession for Thaipusam often starts from this temple.

During the festival, worshippers with pierced skin, tongue and cheeks carry offerings of cows’ milk in pots.

Just a note if you are visiting, that as a sign of respect, women are advised to cover up their arms and legs before entering the temple.

3. The view from Marina Bay Sands.

The Marina Bay Sands hotel has become an iconic part of Singapore’s skyline with one of the world’s largest rooftop infinity pool.

The hotel overlooks the bay and the Gardens by the Bay.

Every evening there is a light and music show at the Gardens by the Bay, and the view of that light show is amazing from the hotel room balconies.

You can also experience the view of Singapore from the hotel’s SkyPark Observation Deck and in the evening, with a different light and water show called Spectra.

Marina Bay Sand’s rooftop infinity pool overlooks an amazing view at night, however, all is not as idyllic as it seems because there are hundreds of tourists taking selfies in the crowded pool.

4. Take a stroll around the bay.

The Merlion statue is half lion, half fish and a mascot of Singapore. Try taking a photo to look like the water is being poured into your mouth

5. Dine at Mott 32 restaurant

For the best Peking duck in town, I highly recommend heading to Mott 32 restaurant at the Marina Bay Sands shopping centre.

We ordered a whole duck between two of us. The waiter carved the duck by our table. We then assembled our own Peking duck pancakes and they were delicious.

6. Gardens by the Bay

If you love nature, then you have to visit The Gardens by the Bay. It’s greenery that spans 105 hectares.

If the heat is too much for you, then head inside the cooled down Flower Dome and Cloud Forest conservatories.

The conservatories display an impressive array of flora and fauna.

7. The Red Dot Design museum, Singapore.

If you are a lover of Design like I, then you have to check out this gorgeous museum.

There are over 500 award winning design works exhibited from all over the world.

8. Jewel, Changi airport.

Jewel is a large lifestyle complex next to the airport with a huge selection of shops and restaurants. Don’t miss the giant waterfall above. There’s a spectacular night display with music and lights.

9. Singapore zoo

Adults and children alike will love the Singapore zoo. Animals are kept in such a way, as if they are roaming freely in nature. Make sure you book for the spectacular night safari too.

10. Best Chilli crabs

I had to mention that the best chilli crabs can be had at the Blue Lotus restaurant in Sentosa island, Singapore.

Hope you have enjoyed this post. You can find information of where to stay here and here.
