What face skincare should I use for the ageing skin?

We hear a lot about products for our skin, such as Serums, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Hyaluronic acid, Retinol and Glycolic acid, but what are they, how do we use them and how will they help?

I decided to just do a little summary here.

Serums

They are thin and light skincare formulations easily absorbed in skin.

The formulations comprising vitamins and nutrients will give corresponding beneficial effects that include anti-ageing, hydrating, plumping, fine lines reduction, skin brightening and more.

Application is usually after facial cleansing, followed by moisturising.

Vitamin C

This vitamin is an important component of skin that has anti-oxidants effects, fighting any harmful contact that the skin encounters.

It stimulates the production of Collagen, essential for the skin’s architecture, and helps protect against sun damage, whilst brightening the skin.

Hyperpigmentation can also be reduced, but more research is needed.

Vitamin E

This vitamin is part of our skin’s natural oils, and a great moisturiser for ageing skin.

Although it helps protect against sun damage, this is only for UVB.

Hyaluronic Acid.

This is a naturally occurring polysaccharide that binds water well and in joints helps with lubrication.

Its moisture binding capability makes it great for retaining moisture in skin, giving the face a more plump look with less fine lines.

For example, during Winter, when the skin is at its driest, Hyaluronic acid is a great product to use.

Retinol

Derived from Vitamin A, it penetrates the middle layer of the skin (dermis) well, therefore ridding the skin of free radicals there, and subsequently boosting the production of elastin and collagen for a plumper skin.

Retinol also has anti-inflammatory effects and are often used for acne treatment.

Glycolic acid.

This works as a chemical exfoliator, dissolving and removing dead skin cells, whilst stimulating collagen production and boosting new skin turnover.

It’s used for acne and the reduction of sunspots on skin too.

However, it is important to note that over usage can lead to skin irritation.

serum for ageing skin

With all that in mind, here’s a review of a face care set by Desavery.

This set comes with 3 steps.

Step 1 involves massaging a few drops of SMOOTH Hyaluronic acid after cleaning the face with a damp cloth.

The consistency of this is like droplets of water, non viscous or sticky, and easy to apply. It smells wonderful too.

Step 2 STELLAR serum application.

The main ingredient here is prickly pear seed oil from the seeds of cactus and is rich in hydrating Vitamin E.

The scent of this serum is divine, with Bergamot, Clary sage and Frankincence.

Step 3 is evening cleansing with the DREAM oil cleanser made of plant oils. As I massage the oil in, it really melts the make up and grime away, as I gently pat and wipe with a warm wet flannel.

There is the beautiful scent of ylang ylang, bergamot and frankincense which instantly transported me to a spa.

It’s difficult for me to say after a month’s use, that visual ageing has halted.

I love the scent of the SMOOTH Hyaluronic acid and how easy it was to apply. It has a great non oily or sticky formulation and feels really pure. This is definitely a product I would continue to use in my skincare routine.

The STELLAR serum was lovely to use, and it gave me a wonderful glow, however, I did find it a little too rich for my skin.

I think it would be perfect for people with very dry skin.

Desavery do a non scented PURE botanical serum too, a great option for sensitive skin.

Using these products really encouraged a self care, wellness routine into my life.

The scents are incredible and even better, there is no animal testing of these products, all plant derived, and ingredients all sustainably sourced and created.

Finally, a special mention for Desavery’s GARRIGUE body oil, my favourite Desavery product that was so moisturising and super luxurious.

It is a body oil made of fig seed oil, rich in Omega 3,6 and 9 and smells of wild cypress and juniper.

Hope you have enjoyed the review, and a quick walk through skin care ingredients suitable for the ageing skin.

Have a lovely day.
